i finally saw the writing on the letter and it said... I'M A WIZARD!

If you haven't heard yet (and if you did hear my show, you definitely have heard), Harry and the Potters are playing at the Grog Shop this Sunday (the 4th). It's an early show (5 p.m.), and it's all ages. HATP shows are always a big event, and they put on a really good show. It's like Harry Potter meets Tenacious D. If you like Harry Potter, you have to go.

Anyway, if you heard my show today, you probably heard me make reference to an Of Montreal show in Las Vegas and certain pictures of (Of Montreal's lead singer) Kevin Barnes. For those who don't check Pitchfork every day, the big deal is that Of Montreal played 6 songs while Kevin was wearing nothing but a red sash and fishnet stockings. And yes, you could see (as Monty Python would say) Kevin's naughty bits. And those pictures were big news on Pitchfork.

If you haven't seen the pictures and you're curious, I'll give you the link. Just make sure you're not clicking on the link at work or at a library ("You jackin' it?") or anywhere else in public. Here's the link:

Kevin Barnes pics (NOT SAFE FOR WORK)

Kevin did later offer an explanation for the nudity. You can read about it here.

I don't know what exactly to think about it. It's not very twee, but then again, Of Montreal's material has been getting darker and weirder as of late. And you know what else? Those pictures are hot!

And one more thing before I post the show... I was the first to play songs from the new Arcade Fire album on WCSB. I started off the show with two songs from the album... but people seemed to care more about the Ivy League's cover of "Crown of Love" more than those songs. Uh oh! Looks like Arcade Fire fell victim to the sophomore slump.

And now, the MP3s:

Part 1 (of 2)
Part 2 (of 2)

Comments:
I loved your blog entry today. Great reference to the Daily Show segment.I also love that you're not afraid to compare HATP to Tenacious D. I know The D are not exactly indie chic (I know Cars Can Be Blue have compared their sound to them though) but I think they're a fun band none the less. Also, I still haven't gotten the hang of the digital recording process yet. If you're interested in the tape enough I could easily duplicate it as another tape and give it to you at the show. Let me know.

Tenacious D is really funny, and if I was a camwhore, I would be donning my Japanese schoolgirl uniform with cat ears in exchange for a DVD for all the shows. Very funny stuff. The only problem with the D is that they went all electric on their albums. They're more impressive when they just do their thing acoustically.

By the way, I never did see Pick of Destiny was that worth seeing.

Anyway, I'd love a copy of the Harry and the Potters tape. Even if it's on tape! Thanks!
