"radical" is my word!
Since nobody said that they liked the Harry Potter set last week, I decided to see if I could win acclaim by doing a set dedicated to another giant media phenomenon, namely, The Simpsons. Since the Simpsons movie is coming out this week, I decided to pull out the punk rock Simpsons compilation that I listened to a lot in high school and play most of the good songs from it. That set rocked disturbingly hard for a Boogiepop show. I hope it didn't lose fans for me again like the Harry Potter set probably did.
Actually, no one said they particularly liked the Simpsons punk rock set, either. I just don't know anymore...
So, this is going to be an awesome week. Harry and the Potters are playing with Draco and the Malfoys and the Whomping Willows at the Lakeshore Facility of the Cleveland Public Library tomorrow night (Wednesday the 25th) at 6:30 p.m. That's going to be awesome.
And then Toledo Indiepop Fest is happening on Friday and Saturday. I just booked my hotel room. Yay!
And in case you didn't see my last post yet, the Helper T-Cells, who were to gloriously represent Cleveland on Saturday night, pulled out. That's too bad. I'm sure they would have won a lot of new fans in Toledo.
However, they've been replaced with ShiSho! Woo hoo! I get to see them live without having to go to Columbus! (Still, they should play a Cleveland show.)
So, this is pretty much going to be the climax of the summer. This coupled with the Harry Potter book release last Friday. Like I said, I did go to a midnight release. I went to the one at Mac's in Coventry. They were having a bunch of things going on up and down Coventry, so I decided to go and support an indie bookstore.
Anyway, that's all that I have for now. Here's the show...

The wizard rock show was amusing, but it was so because it introduced a genre which raised some interesting issues about pop culture. The music itself wasn't particulary thoughtful, and indeed, its intent was not to be thoughtful, but to present a parody.
I'm going to assume that since we have spoken about Harry and the Potters in the past that I am the "one guy". I did, in fact, enjoy the hour long wizard rock set. I went to the show on Wednesday at the library and it was most fun. I have to say, HATP has come a long way in terms of popularity. I'm starting to feel old and out of place amongst the 14 year old girls at their shows. Fun times though.
I also very much enjoyed the Simpsons set this week. I had no idea such a CD existed. I found myself fondly remembering the songs and singing along.
I too will be attending the Toledo Indiepop Fest.
p.s. I haven't forgotten about the HATP tour cassette I promised you. Unfortunately I was very much under the weather the day of their show at the Grog Shop in March and could not attend. I've finally found the problem with my attempt at capturing my analog stuff to pc. It was my sound card. I suppose I can finally put it in MP3 format and e-mail it to you.

Speaking of Wizard Rock, there's this band called The Parselmouths that's been a guilty pleasure of mine lately. I've been listening to their Wizard Rock EP of the Month Club release a lot lately.

Oh, and Ben... Wizard rock doesn't seem like a parody to me. The people who play it genuinely like the books and are paying tribute to them through this particular form of fan art.
I hope the Ann Arbor people show up at the Toledo Indiepop Fest in a show of interstate north coast counterculture solidarity.
