happy boxing day...

In case you didn't hear before, I have an important announcement.

I will be on WCSB from midnight to 2 a.m. on January 1st (Sunday night/early Monday morning). So, I'm going to be doing WCSB first broadcast of 2007. Neato!

Usually, that time slot is occupied by Scruggscorp/Crap as hosted by Keith. Even though Keith will be far away in New York (no, he's not going to Times Square), I'll still be keeping his (mostly) talk format and taking callers on the air. It'll probably be New Year's related topics (reflections on 2006, resolutions and hopes for 2007, etc), plus any random topics that might pop up.

So, tune in to WCSB and stay awake for a couple more hours after you toast the new year... or just turn your radio to WCSB while you're in bed and falling asleep and listen to the rare phenomenon that is a Boogiepop-hosted talk show.

Anyway... Next week, I have 33 songs to get through. Can I get through them all? I don't know. It's going to be exciting. And it'll be exciting to see who number 1 is. ^_^

Finally, here are the links to today's show.

riding the bison sleigh

Once again, Happy Hanukkah. And Happy Solstice and Merry Christmas to whomever it's applicable.

Thus ends the holiday season on Boogiepop Does Not Smile. I hope you enjoyed it, but I can't help but feeling disappointed in myself. See, I didn't get to play everything I could have played. Like "Bethlehem" by Duplex. Or the newer Shonen Knife Christmas song (with lyrics by Thurston Moore). Or especially one of the Of Montreal Christmas songs. I can't believe I didn't play anything by Of Montreal.

I should have just did three full weeks of holiday music. :P

But that's all over with now, and it's time to look forward. Or backward. Because it's time for the 2006 No Money Mark Memorial Year-In-Review Countdown! Starting next week, I'll be spending 2 weeks counting down the best singles of the year. No mediocrity here! It's all going to be good stuff. And because I wasn't on the radio for a few months this year, there's going to be some surprises popping up (because I didn't get to play them when they were new).

So, stay tuned for that. And then return your gifts for money, so you can use it to buy whatever I play on the countdown! ^_^

Anyway, here are the links for the 12/19/06 MP3s:
Part 1
Part 2

P.S. In case it's not clear what's going on at the end of the show, Elizabeth stopped by the station to give me a Christmas gift. Apparently, she heard my joke about being a webcam whore and wearing a Japanese schoolgirl outfit and cat ears in exchange for some pervert getting me a DVD of Dig (the movie about the Brian Jonestown Massacre and the Dandy Warhols). I hope that part wasn't too tacky...

happy hanukkah

Happy Hanukkah (starting this Friday night) to anyone who celebrates it!

Part 1 of the all holiday music, all the time is over. And I definitely haven't run out of good stuff to play. I still have to get to the Atom and His Package song, and not only have I not played ShiSho's "Get Behind Me Santa"... ShiSho is releasing a new Christmas song! And there's other stuff that I'm forgetting, too.

Anyway, if you have a Christmas classic that you want me to play, get in your requests now! Click on the comments link below and request away!

And now, here are the MP3s:

Part 2

P.S. I made a new MySpace for the show. It's at myspace.com/boogiepopdoesnotsmile.

For my next bits of housekeeping, I should update/reorganize the links section. And maybe make a new FAQ.

IMPORTANT NOTE (added 12/7/06): I may have confused you with how the MP3 posting works. Whenever I post the show, I post the ENTIRE show in two parts. That contains every single "set" in the show.

And when I divide the playlist by sets, that denotes each block of songs that I play before I go on the air and read off a setlist.

Anyway, I might have to try and devise a less confusing format now. If you have any suggestions about that or any other suggestions/points of clarification concerning the show, please don't hesitate to post a comment about it. Thanks!

teh pwnage

So, that's it. For the next two weeks, I'm playing all holiday music. And then, the two weeks after that, I'll be doing the 2006 No Money Mark Memorial End-of-Year Countdown.

If you have any indie/twee Christmas and Hanukkah songs that you want to hear (especially if you remember anything that I've played in the past), please don't hesitate to post requests here for next week!

And in case you didn't hear, I played a couple of Kiddo Christmas songs... sort of. Actually, they were by "Knight & Roble", which is Shawn Knight from New Grenada and Christian from Kiddo. A label called Suburban Sprawl has some holiday compilations available for free download, and they had a song on the 2005 and 2006 compilations. I'm too lazy to repost the links in this post, but if you scroll down to the latest playlist (right below this post), you'll find the links there. Also, there's a New Grenada song on this year's compilation. Awesome!

I wish somebody had actually told me about this sooner. By some fluke, I actually found that stuff by myself while screwing around on the Internet an hour before the show. Oh, and apparently, Awesome Animal Ambulance released another CD in 2005. SOMEBODY NEEDS TO TELL ME THIS STUFF!

Anyway... I'm posting today's show, but I don't know if I should. I just feel like I got pwned today, as people on the Internets like to say. Lots of "dead air, um, dear air," as Strong Bad would say. I don't know if it was self-pwnage or just circumstance, but I could imagine a coach coming up to me after the show and saying, "What the hell happened out there?! That was sloppy! You're a professional! You can do better than that! Now I want you to go back out there and DJ like you want to win! DJ so that you're dishing out teh pwnage, not receiving it! L0l0rz!"

Okay, coach. I'm all fired up, now. I sure don't want to receive any more of teh pwnage...

So, here are the links to today's show:

Part 2

P.S. I'm still thinking about whether or not I should make a MySpace for the show.

hanukkah snowman

I was wrong about not having a new Hanukkah song for this year. Phranc (my favorite Jewish lesbian folksinger... unless Mirah counts as a folksinger) does a song called "Hanukkah Snowman" on the new Kill Rock Stars Winter Holiday Album. It's nice and cute. And there's also a really good solo song by Beth Ditto (from the Gossip). It's weird to hear her backed up by brass horns and jingle bells, though.

Anyway, I've decided that I'm going to play some holiday stuff next week. And it's just going to be new songs that I acquired this year. So, even if you're not up to listening to it yet, there will at least be some novelty to it thanks to all the newness. And I'll make sure to play that song with Rose Melberg on it.

Finally, I'm thinking about making a new Boogiepop Does Not Smile MySpace page. But I'm not sure if I should bother...
