hello kitty is more detrimental to women and girls than barbie?!

This article was on largeheartedboy a couple days ago. Hello Kitty is 30 years old. She's as old as Dungeons and Dragons.

Anyway, there's a really disturbing passage in the article that I want you to read:
Celebrities such as Cameron Diaz, Mariah Carey, Sarah Jessica Parker and Gwen Stefani are wearing Hello Kitty T-shirts and jewelry and making Hello Kitty waffles and toast.

I guess that Hello Kitty isn't as indie as I thought she was and that she's actually quite universal. I guess I'll have to stop making references to her now.

In other news, Palomar is playing with the Twilight and Expecting Rain on November 10 (a Wednesday). That's going to be a great show. You really should go to that. If you're a pervert who likes to objectify women, you'll like Palomar.

If you're a pervert who likes to objectify women, don't call in for the Le Tigre tickets that I'm giving away on the next show. Everyone at that show will kick your ass if you make a wrong move.

I think the tickets for Brian Jonestown Massacre are all gone. I don't think I'm going to go. I want to stay home and watch how the future of the country is going to play out. And while I'm doing that, I'll pack my bags and purchase a ticket for Canada if things go the wrong way.

The only problem with Canada is that there aren't as many good indie bands there and it's too cold. Otherwise, from what I understand, it's a great place...

sharpies in the laundry?

Remember when I said that I wanted to make Boogiepop t-shirts for Radiothon premiums by getting plain white t-shirts and drawing on them with a black Sharpie? Remember how after that, I wanted to know if putting those shirts in the laundry will make the Sharpies run? Well, a couple people called at the end of the show with answers.

One person said that if you don't use bleach in the laundry, they won't run.

Then, No Money Mark called and said that OfficeMax sells these special markers that are designed not to run or wash out in the laundry.

I'm not sure if I really want to make t-shirts like that, though. I don't know if anyone would really want them.

Anyway, that's it for now. I don't know when I'll post again. This will be a busy and stressful week thanks to school.

blah

I've been quite busy lately, so there's been a lack of postage. And record reviewage. If any Mundane Sounds people read this, sorry. I still want to review stuff for y'all.

I hope you had no problem with the crazy things I said on the Sweetest Day show. Let's see if my way of celebrating Sweetest Day catches on, which would dictate that the ironic hipster way of celebrating it will be to celebrate as everyone celebrates it now (by buying candy and cards and such). I hope that made sense to everyone.

I hope you liked the song selection. I'm unhappy with it only because I forgot to play "The Human Hosepipe" by Harry and the Potters. I was trying to fit in a bunch of the best breakup songs of the year, and that was definitely one of them.

Most requests were out of genre for the show. Mostly punk, plus a request for Neil Young. Maybe I would have considered the Neil Young one, but it was getting close to the end of the show. Actually, there was one good punk one, but I didn't get time to play it. I might play it next week.

I didn't play Magnetic Fields because I thought that would be too obvious. I did have Future Bible Heroes pulled, but I ran out of time before I could play it. Of course, there's always a surplus amount of material for the Sweetest Day show (or a pro-love show). I could do another good Sweetest Day show next week if I wanted to.

Next week will be a loose observance of Halloween. Just a couple of Halloween-related songs, plus remixes of music from a certain classic videogame in the background while I talk on the air.

Radiothon, the station's annual fundraiser is in a couple of weeks. It starts November 7th. Donate to your favorite show. If your favorite show is mine, donate to it. Just call in to the special hotline number during the show. Or maybe they'll have it set up online this year, just like they did last year.

On my show for Radiothon, maybe I should offer plain white t-shirts with a "^ ^" drawn on the front of them and see if anyone actually pledges for them. Well, I'd also write "Boogiepop Does Not Smile" on them to give the "^ ^" a little context. Maybe that would sweeten the deal.

Hm... Do Sharpie drawings wash out and/or run when you put them through the laundry?

I wonder if Scruggscorp Radio is going to have a CD. Maybe you should all just donate to that show so you can get the "College Radio Classics" commercial.

I think that's it for now. I hope you'll be tuning in on Monday as usual, you geeky cutie pies!

sweetest day?

The Sweetest Day show will be postponed for one week. It just doesn't seem to be a good time to do it now. Maybe the new timing will be more effective because it'll be just after Sweetest Day and people will still be thinking about what a horrible waste of money and time it was to celebrate it. Or maybe they'll be euphoric thanks to all the sex they got thanks to the romantic atmosphere, assuming that people have sex on Sweetest Day. In that case, the show might be ineffective.

Anyway, I'm still taking requests.

In other news, the Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players are going to be back at the Grog Shop on the 21st (that's a Thursday). It's going to be an early show (their ad in the paper says 6 PM, but of course I don't know if that's an hour off as it usually is), and I'm not going to be able to go. :(

I'll still be giving tickets away for it, though.

personal message

I just wanted to ask the entity known as Manos if it is still interested in getting rid of that extra copy of the MST3K movie. E-mail me and we'll discuss terms, okay?

I'd also like to apologize for not having noticed Issue 1 before. This is just as important to address as the presidential election. Issue 1 is one of those homophobic defense of marriage laws. The exact wording of it is here. If you support this outrageous piece of bullshit, please don't ever listen to my show again. I don't need assholes like you in my audience. k? thnx. bye.

According to BBS posts on queenboys.com he Frogs are coming out with a new album next year. It's going to have a spiritual theme. I can't wait to hear what it's going to be like.

I'm still not sure about when I should do the Sweetest Day show. I think I'm leaning towards postponing it, though. Either way, you should request something.

I don't really have anything else to say for right now.

you're not forgetting poland now, are you?

We just got the new Le Tigre CD today. Not until after the show, though. I'm not sure how I feel about it. All I know is that it does sound like they got more money from their major label deal to put into the making of this album.

I forgot to say before that in that Scene "Best of Cleveland" issue, there's also a WCSB program listing with all the shows divided by genre. It's on page 102. Boogiepop is listed under "Indie". DAMN STRAIGHT!

FUCK! I just realized that Sweetest Day is a week from this Saturday! Which means that I'll have to make the next show the Sweetest Day show in order to stay chronologically relevant. I wish I'd looked that up before this morning's show so I could have announced. I'll probably have to make a cart to play at the beginning of the show next week to announce that it's Sweetest Day so people can make requests. Anyway, those of you who go to this site and are in the know should click on the comments below and make your special Sweetest Day requests soon. Remember, this is an anti-Sweetest Day celebration, so only request breakup songs and such.

This link has a little historical background on Sweetest Day. Guess what! It really was started by a candy company! It was started for supposedly altruistic reasons, but still...

Today when I did that ticket giveaway for the Twilight show, the guy who won said that I didn't have to stop talking, that he liked hearing me talk. Of course, I assumed that he enjoyed making fun of the way that I talk, but he said something about it being endearing to hear me fumble around like an average guy. Which made me very unhappy because that's what Dubya does. I don't want to be like Dubya. :(

I should have taken a public speaking class. And I should be going to law school now.

I hope you liked the 7" stuff. I didn't realize that we had that one Apples In Stereo 7". Which is surprising because I went through all the 7"s a long time ago to look for good stuff. I didn't know about the R.E.M. one, either. I hope that you liked/didn't mind the classic R.E.M.

I'm not playing the new R.E.M. No.

I said something about playing a Cibo Matto 7" this morning. I couldn't find it. It's not where it's supposed to be. Fuck! There was a really good cover song that I wanted to play. I recorded it onto CD a long time ago, though, so I could play it off of that at some point.

But not next week! Fuck! Damn you, October 2004! Damn you for having five Saturdays! And damn Sweetest Day for always being the third Saturday of October! I was really hoping to have one more show before the Sweetest Day classic. Sure, I could delay it for a week, but I don't know if it feel right.

I have to play the Le Tigre CD next week, though. I just can't fucking sit on that. Maybe I will have to delay the show. I'll post something later if I decide to delay it. For now, just start requesting stuff.

Look at the Harry and the Potters website. They've posted lots of anti-Bush links. The best one (which I actually found and suggested to them) is the Anti-Bush game. It's from the makers of the Emo Game.

I don't think I have anything else that I really want to say at the moment so...

Request Sweetest Day songs now!

REALLY FUCKING BAD NEWS!

I just found out that the soundboard in main air is totally fucked up. I don't know what exactly is wrong, but it will most likely not be resolved until the engineer looks at it. I have no idea how long it will take before he'll go out to the station and take a look at it (and even then, there isn't a guarantee that he'll be able to quickly solve the problem). Therefore, it is quite doubtful that there will be an episode of Boogiepop this week.

However, if you do hear Chris and Thea (or whatever is supposed to be on the station at the time you get around to reading this), ignore this post.

Edit: The engineer came in and said that we can still broadcast from the production studio. There's actually a big sign in main air that says if something happens, we can always do that, but no one noticed it.

Anyway, there will be a show today, but the playlist will not be updated live. Check back later for the playlist and more stuff.
