too hot for radio/boogiepop gone wild

If you read the last post closely, you may remember that although I wouldn't be doing a show this week, I'd still have a surprise for you on Monday. So, here it is...

A special Internet-only episode. I'd wanted to try something like this for a while. I did this entirely on my laptop in my room.

But the other special thing about this episode is that it's a special "Too Hot For Radio/Boogiepop Gone Wild" episode. The songs in this episode are either have expletives or are just too sexy for the airwaves. So, I'm exercising my free speech rights by playing them in this show. With that said, I have to give you a disclaimer:

Warning: This show contains much explicit language. It may not be safe to play at work, in front of children, or in front of any members of the religious right. Listener discretion is advised. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Also, this show was not recorded on WCSB equipment or broadcast over WCSB's airwaves, so it would be moot for you to complain to WCSB if this show causes any grievances. This show was recorded by the host on his own equipment, so please forward all complaints to the e-mail address indicated in the sidebar.

So, with that out of the way, I'll give you the link:

12/26/05 Too Hot For Radio/Boogiepop Gone Wild show

I'll post the playlist to this show in a couple of days, but for now, I want to keep it a surprise.

Anyway, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Boxing Day!

merry [censored] christmas!

I'm not allowed to make calls to action on the air, but I can make them here, so...

Boycott any store that says "Merry Christmas" instead of "Merry Fucking Christmas" and "Happy Holidays" instead of "Happy Fucking Holidays"! It's a culture war, and we Vulgarians are under attack. It's time to fight back with our dollar! Only shop at stores that aren't afraid of the "f-word"!

The semester is about to end at CSU, so hopefully I'll be up to posting more often in the next few weeks. Then again, I just got The Sims 2, so maybe not. ^_^

So, you are coming to my gig at Remix Lounge on the 23rd, right? It'll be fun! Don't tell me that this show never makes you want to dance!

Only one more week for Christmas music on Boogiepop. Get in your requests for Christmas classics while you still can. Post one in the comment link below. Nobody called me and I only got one comment today. Come on! You can do better than that!

Anyway, here's the link to the archive of today's show:

12/12/05 Part 1
12/12/05 Part 2

Edit: Pitchfork had a list of the top five live shows of 2005, and Harry and the Potters were number 3. I'm now officially cooler than Pitchfork because I saw them twice in 2004. Click here to see the article

special announcement

I don't know if I have this 100% confirmed, but I will be doing a live DJ gig on Friday, December 23rd at Remix Lounge in Lakewood. I think it's near the Phantasy and Symposium and such.

Apparently, one of the regulars there, DJ Nomad, gave me an impromptu audition during my last show and thought that the Christmas classics and my regular material that I was playing would be great for this Christmas Eve Eve shindig. (That's just a fancy way of saying that he still had his car radio tuned to WCSB from listening to Feima on Saturday night and just happened to catch a really good part of my show when he got in his car again.)

The gig is going to be me and DJ Nomad doing 30-45 minute sets and rotating throughout the night. The whole thing is going to be from 9:30 to 2:30. DJ Nomad plans "on playing everything from trip hop to synthpop to punk to trance, with Sesame Street songs, Christmas songs, Easter songs, etc. and occasional jazz breaks/overlays." I think that I'm going to play a lot of twee and synthpop, and also a lot of Christmas classics.

Now, I'm not sure if there's going to be dancing or not. DJ Nomad says that Remix Lounge is a place for sitting down, drinking martinis, eating some hors d'oeuvres, and listening to music, but on some nights, they do get things going on the dance floor. I think I'm going to try to get people to dance, but I'm going to be prepared for the eventuality that people might want to just sit and listen. Maybe I'll try putting on that newest Ladytron hit single that everyone but that one guy likes and see if that gets everyone pumped up enough to dance.

I won't be prepared the eventualities in which people don't show up, or people show up, but they don't pay attention to me and get into what I'm playing. So, I need you (yes, YOU!) to show up and be prepared to have a good time with me.

Oh, and I'm not sure if I'm going to profit from this or not. I think it might depend on how much money the bar gets. I don't think there's a cover charge. But really, I'm doing this because I think it'll be fun, or at least, I think it'll be fun if people show up. So, don't schedule any parties for that night, okay?

I'm supposed to talk to DJ Nomad this weekend and get all the details worked out. So, I should have everything confirmed and all the info you need about the event before the show this Monday.

get behind me, santa!

It doesn't really feel like Christmas time until the fall semester is over, but I still played some of that Christmas music for the kids.

I still have a Jens Lekman Christmas song to play, plus some more stuff from the original Kindercore Christmas CD.

I can't believe that you don't want to go and see Amy Kasio! You should go! Really! The Hi-Fi is in Lakewood. You don't have a problem with going to Lakewood, do you?

And now, here's the show:

12/5/05 Part 1
12/5/05 Part 2

Edit: Links are fixed. Thanks, Kevin!
